Jaitley holds review meeting of FDI policy in various sectors

Finance minister Arun Jaitley held a meeting with other ministers and government officials on Monday for a review of the current Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy, informed sources said. Commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman, power minister Piyush Goyal, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj attended the meeting, the sources said. Study: Health costs of pollution in India 8 times of govt’s fuel subsidy

India spent $16.9 billion on oil, gas and coal subsidies in 2013 and 2014 but the health costs to meet the burden of air pollution-linked diseases was eight times more at $140.7 billion, says a report by an European environmental non-profit organisation. Maternal mortality rates in Delhi have increased marginally – from 0.37 per 1,000 live births in 2015 to 0.41 in 2016. In another worrying trend, the percentage of teenage pregnancies has gone up significantly.
