Living Close To Major Roads Increases Dementia Risk

People living near major roads have a higher chance of developing dementia, according to a large-scale study published in British medical journal The Lancet on Thursday. The research looked at six million adults living in Ontario, Canada between 2001 and 2012, and found that those living less than 50 metres (yards) from a busy road had a seven percent higher incidence of dementia. Cured meats linked to worsening asthma symptoms

Eating large amounts of cured meats was linked to worse symptoms among asthma sufferers, a French study found. That was true even after taking obesity into account, the authors say. New imaging technique to detect onset of vision loss

Researchers have developed a new non-invasive retinal imaging technique that could prevent vision loss in diseases like glaucoma – the second leading cause of acquired blindness worldwide. The new technique called multi-offset detection, which images the human retina — a layer of cells at the back of the eye that are essential for vision — was able to distinguish individual retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), which bear most of the responsibility of relaying visual information to the brain. The death of these RGCs causes vision loss in glaucoma, the researchers said.…
